4600-Series Single Patio Doors

FEATURES

Welcome the outdoors with our versatile patio doors that are custom-built to your specifications.

Patio doors are available in a wide range of colors, EuroWood finishes, and configurations.

OUTSWING

Swing-only doors feature multi-point locking hardware for security, and heavy hinges for continuous smooth operation in high traffic areas.

The easy-to-operate handle moves the multi-point locking hardware into place, compressing the double compression gaskets for a tight seal and better security.

INSWING

Inswing swing-only doors feature all the same advantages as outswing doors, but open to the inside where there isn’t enough room to swing the door open to the outside.

TILT &TURN

4600-series doors can be made to feature tilt & turn operation with multi-point locking.

One easy-to-operate handle moves the multi-point locking hardware into place for either the locked, tilt, or turn position.

With the handle in the “turn” position, the sash turns inwards at the side like a regular hinged door.

With the handle in the “tilt” position, the sash tilts inwards at the top, providing draft-free, secure ventilation.

This type of door is ideal for lower-traffic areas such as bedroom suites with access to a balcony or deck.

PROFILE

4600-series doors are made from high-quality REHAU uPVC (unplasticized polyacrylate vinyl chloride).

The process by which uPVC is mixed together makes it stronger and less brittle than other types of PVC.

uPVC polymers exhibit outstanding light and weather resistance as well as colour durability. After 10,000 hours of exposure in the Weather-Ometer, no change in colour is discernible, the notch impact strength is scarcely altered, and there is no visible change in surface gloss.

High-impact resistant uPVC is essential during transportation and installation when window frames are subjected to bending and exposure to low external temperatures in winter. Under these conditions, cracking is much less likely with uPVC than with regular PVC.

4600-door-cornerSince uPVC contains no plasticizers or lead it is 100% recyclable, and – most importantly – it won’t make your family sick.

Frame and sash corners are fusion-welded for strength and to prevent air and water infiltration, as can happen with windows that are connected mechanically (e.g. fibreglass or aluminum windows).

4600-door-chambersThe 4600-series features a 5-chamber system with thick outer walls. Each chamber acts as a thermal break, providing insulation and high thermal performance.

Thicker walls give the doors more strength overall, and specifically in the corners, where more material means a better, stronger weld.

The smooth exterior makes the windows easy to clean with water and a mild soap.

Extruded profiles are available in white and beige.

SILL

4600-series patio doors are available with three sill options:

STANDARD SILL

This sill option continues the regular frame profile at the sill of the door, and features the same double compression gasket as the sides and top. Together with the multi-point locking hardware, this results in a tight seal even at the sill.

It allows for higher floor build-up, and is the most cost-effective option.

LOW SILL

Approximately 3/4″ lower than the standard sill, the optional low sill is great for people with more limited mobility, like small children, who might have difficulty stepping over the standard sill. This sill still features a double compression gasket for a tight seal.

BARRIER FREE SILL

While mostly used on main entry doors, the barrier free sill is available on patio doors where wheelchair accessibility is needed. This sill features one compression gasket.

Because tilt & turn doors require locking points on the sill, they are best combined with either the standard or low sill, rather than a barrier free sill.

REINFORCEMENT

4600-door-reinforcementFrames, sashes and mullions of the 4600-series are reinforced with roll-formed galvanized steel that is fastened to the vinyl. The steel not only adds structural strength to the doors, but also provides increased security against break-ins.

In climates where temperatures can vary greatly between daytime and nighttime, like in Central B.C. and Alberta, doors are reinforced with tube steel (shown in picture) and weldable vinyl corner blocks in the sashes, giving the door added strength and limiting thermal expansion/contraction. In milder climates, such as the Lower Mainland, u-shaped steel is used, and tube-steel is available as an option.

SEALS

4600-door-sealsTwo EPDM (ethylene propylene diene Monomer) compression gaskets ensure a tight seal when the multi-point locking hardware is engaged, pulling the sash into the frame.

EPDM gaskets are extremely long-lasting and resistant to wear. Due to its “memory”, EPDM returns to its original shape and state when uncompressed, resulting in many years of tight seals. It withstands extreme weather (-40°C to +150°C), ozone and UV without drying out or becoming brittle like regular rubber seals.

Finally, it is colourfast and will not discolour the vinyl profiles.

HARDWARE

The 4600-series GoldenLine features multi-point locking hardware by ROTO FRANK that seals out harsh weather and makes it virtually impossible for intruders to break into your home through the frame.

ROTO FRANK was the first to bring tilt & turn hardware to market, and continues to be an innovator in window and door hardware technology to this day. The RotoSill Nano coating offers the highest available surface protection. Through galvanizing, chromating, and additional sealing the hardware becomes extremely scratch and corrosion resistant. Even if the surface is scratched, the coating “heals” itself, continuing to provide protection against corrosion.

All locking points are simultaneously operated simply by the turn of a single handle, which makes the door easy to operate even for people with limited mobility. Turning the handle to the downward, “locked” position engages the hardware, causing the sash to be pulled tightly into the frame. The number of locking points increases as door size increases, meaning that even large doors seal tight all around. This not only results in better thermal performance, but also higher security.

LOCKS

STANDARD HANDLE-OPERATED LOCK (NO CYLINDER)

Just like the 4600-series windows, the patio doors are locked from the inside by turning the handle to engage the multi-point locking hardware.

The exterior has a static pull handle, which can be used to move the sash, but cannot operate the hardware, meaning that the sash will still swing freely, as there is no latch. This also means that the door can only be locked and unlocked from the interior.

This application works best for doors leading out to balconies, where it is not necessary to fully close the door when outside, or access the house through this door.

HALF CYLINDER

Adding a half-cylinder to a door means that a thumbturn is added to the interior, and a handle to the exterior. This allows the door to be fully closed (not locked) from the exterior. While turning the handle to the closed position will engage the multi-point locking hardware, the door will be operable from the interior and/or exterior until locked by the thumbturn on the interior.

This application works well for deck doors, where one may want to fully close the door when spending an extended amount of time outside, but where access to the house is not required.

FULL KEYLOCK

A keylock adds a thumbturn to the interior, and a handle and keylock to the exterior. This allows the door to be fully closed from the exterior with the handle, as well as locked by using the key.

This application is ideal where access from the exterior is desirable, such as in a mudroom.

GLAZING

4600-door-glazing-beadEvery 4600-series door comes standard with a 24mm deep dual-pane tempered insulated glass (IG) unit with a LoE (low emissivity) soft coating, argon gas fill, and warm edge spacer. Each pane of glass is at least 4mm thick.

A 32mm triple pane IG unit, as well as many other glass options, is also available.

Tempering the glass strengthens it and makes it safer in case of accident, as it shatters into small, dull pieces rather than sharp glass shards.

The LoE soft coating improves energy efficiency by reflecting radiant heat from the sun back out in the summer, keeping the interior of the house cool, and reflecting radiant heat from heating back inside in the winter, resulting in less heating being needed.

In addition, the LoE coating also reduces UV transmittance, which helps save your furniture from fading.

Because argon gas is heavier than air, it is a better insulator. Using argon gas between the glass panes results in less heat transfer, which means less moisture and ice buildup on the glass.

4600-door-spacerThe spacer that is used in the IG unit also plays a very important role in how it performs. Metal spacers not only transfer much more heat, they also are more likely to fail, allowing the argon gas to escape, moisture to enter, and mold to grow.

This is the reason why all EuroLine windows have a Super Spacer – a warm edge technology spacer that significantly improves glass performance. After a 5-year high-humidity test it was found that 99% of the argon was retained.

Since EuroLine does not use glazing tape and dry glazes all units, glass replacement is fast and easy if it ever becomes necessary. The glazing stops that are located on the interior (this is also for security, so the glass cannot be removed from the exterior) are taken out, the old glass unit is removed (this does not require any cutting and/or cleaning of glazing tape or silicone), the new unit inserted and the glazing stops replaced.
